The great team of New York Yankees all-time home run leaders is composed of a quintet of Hall of Famers

The great team of New York Yankees all-time home run leaders is composed of a quintet of Hall of Famers who put jointly their thus undefeatable totals more than half a century ago. Each of the top five home run hitters in New York Yankees history played between the 1920s and 1960s. The New York Yankees all-time home run leader and one of the best players in Major League history, Babe Ruth. A great pitcher and hitter in Boston, Ruth became a position player exclusively when he arrived in New York. Ruth almost invented the home run the first time he ever led the league, he hit 11 of them. On July 31st we all know there will be new additions to the Bronx Bombers. The question is Who will be in New York? The Yankees have stated that they would like to add a “bench bat” and a release pitcher. With the current injury of Andy Pettitte, one can imagine they would add another starting pitcher. In my debut to Bleacher Report, these are the contenders who I think will be in Yankee blue by the end of the trade deadline. The well known George Steinbrenner businessman, owner and former principal executive of Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees died on Tuesday just few days back. He has celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4th. He died at about 6:30 AM in the morning following a heart attack after which he was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, Fla. On July 13th 2010, he died suffering from a massive heart attack. He was the longest in club history, the Yankees earned 11 pennants and 7 World Series titles. On April 13, 2010, on opening day in the new Yankee Stadium, Derek Jeter and Joe Girardi confidentially presented the first 2009 World Series Championship ring to Steinbrenner in his stadium suite. He was “almost speechless”. This past week wasn’t an easy one for the New York Yankees. Last Sunday, their long-time public address announcer, Bob Sheppard, died at 99. Sheppard began his time as the voice of Yankee Stadium in 1951. The first line-up he announced included Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio. An odd sequence of events in the final game of the series between the New York Yankees and the LA Angels was broadcast on sports highlight shows across the United States Wednesday night. The great team of Yankee pinch hitter was sent to the plate with two strikes against him, made lemonade with the lemons given to him. The Kansas City Royals have a hard game to win today as they are in New York to take on the Yankees. New York is 31-15 at home this year while Kansas City is just 21-28 on the road. With C.C. Sabathia expected to take the mound for the Yanks, needless to say the Bronx Bombers are coming in as massive home favorites in a game that starts at 7:05pm ET. When asked to comment during Barry Bonds’s 2001 pursuit of the single-season home run record that he himself shattered in 1998, Mark McGwire said, “I was lucky enough to reach 70, and now they’re all talking about it like it’s a piece of cake.” It wasn’t for Bonds, it wasn’t for McGwire, and it certainly wasn’t for Roger Maris, who in 1961 competed with his much more popular teammate Mickey Mant…

61* is an endearing ode to the baseball days of yore when the press was the enemy, salaries were in check, and breaking records with bat and glove took on Ruthian proportions. In 1961 baseball expanded its season from 154 games to 162, allowing weaker pitching into the major leagues and two New York Yankees teammates–the colorless Roger Maris and golden boy Mickey Mantle–to make an assault on th…
